In the shadow of the nuclear threat

We hereby invite you to a public meeting on Sunday April 28th at the Korzo Theatre, The Hague organised for the Indian and Pakistani communities in the Netherlands. Your address was made available to us by representatives of your community.

The purpose of the meeting is to create a platform for representatives of the Indian and Pakistani peace movements and to start a dialogue between the Indian and Pakistani communities in the Netherlands and the Dutch peace movement. The present situation in India and Pakistan will also be debated, focussed on the problem of nuclear arms in both countries.

The speakers will include, among others, Achin Vanaik, an independent scholar and journalist and co-founder of the Movement in India for Nuclear Disarmament; Pervez Hoodbhoy, a professor of nuclear and high energy physics in Pakistan and member of South Asians Against Nukes; and Tera Fopma, a representative of the Dutch peace movement.

The evening starts at 17.00 hrs. with a free dinner, Indian and Pakistani cuisine, which will be accompanied by music. Admission is free.

Date and Location: Sunday 28 April, 17.00 – 21.30 hrs, Korzo Theatre, Prinsestraat 42, The Hague.

Public transport: from The Hague Central station: tram 2 or 6, get off at ‘Grote Markt’ or tram 3 to ‘Gravenstraat’; from The Hague Hollands Spoor take tram 10, to ‘Gravenstraat’.

Parkinggarage is located in the Torenstraat.

During the afternoon (13.00- 16.00) students are invited to a workshop on ‘Nuclear weapons and health’ at the same location. It will discuss their perception of the nuclear dangers in the world they live in.

The meeting is being organised by two Dutch non-governmental organisations:

NVMP (Medical Association for Peace Research) and PENN (Project on European Nuclear Non-Proliferation).
